CASE STUDY:

How the City of San Bernardino Improved Police Officer Safety and Response Success by Investing in Tactical Brake Systems

Summary

To meet its combined industry and geographic challenges, the City of San Bernardino Police Department paired the high-performance StopTech TACTICAL brake pads [307.16111 and 307.16120] with Centric rotors [120.65154 and 120.65137] on all Ford Taurus and Ford Explorer police units in the city.  The lab-developed brake pads, specifically engineered to extend service life, show silent and fade-free performance in high-pursuit situations against the city’s grueling weather conditions using specially-formulated friction compounds.

The Subject: City of San Bernardino, CA, Police Division

Police officers in San Bernardino are challenged with a variety of terrain in their jurisdiction.  From summer highs above 110° to snowfall in mountain neighborhoods, oftentimes their response hinges on their vehicles’ ability to operate correctly, safely, and silently.

The Challenge

The Fleet Parts Division of the Public Works Department is expected to keep the city’s officers’ response vehicles in top working order with little interruption.  With over 225 sworn officers responding to a city with one of the highest crime rates in California, this is often a difficult task.

The Solution

StopTech TACTICAL Policy Duty Brake pads are precision-engineered to provide superior and silent braking performance under the extreme driving conditions experienced by officers in pursuit and patrol situations.  With maximum pad retention and easy installation, there are minimal service interruptions to patrol vehicles.

The Result

The combination of StopTech TACTICAL brake pads and Centric rotors is keeping San Bernardino’s officers safe on the streets and out of the shop.  The Public Works Department is pleased with the brake system’s performance and will continue to use StopTech and Centric high-performance products.

We recently started using the StopTech TACTICAL brake pad exclusively on our fleet of Police Interceptor vehicles.  The pads are paired with Centric’s rotors and have performed very well under extreme service conditions and we have no plans to change their use going forward.
